2026 Illinois Remote Retailer Tax Amnesty

The Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR) is announcing the 2026 Remote Retailer Tax Amnesty Program, offering eligible remote retailers the opportunity to resolve past Illinois sales tax liabilities with all related penalties and interest waived.

Program dates: August 1 – October 31, 2026

The program provides:

Full penalty and interest relief
Streamlined, single-application reporting
Simplified tax rates (9% for general merchandise; 1.75% for qualifying items)

Who qualifies:

This program is available to remote retailers with unpaid sales tax for periods January 1, 2021 – June 30, 2026, who meet Illinois’ tax remittance thresholds.

How to participate:

Retailers must be registered with IDOR as remote retailers, have an active MyTax Illinois logon, and submit the Remote Retailer Tax Amnesty Application electronically. Registration can take 1–2 business days—early registration is encouraged.
