File your Federal & State Taxes for Free!
 |
|
IRS Direct File is now available in Illinois.
Eligible Illinois taxpayers can file their 2024 federal return directly with the IRS.
Federal return information can then be transferred into MyTax Illinois, to free file Illinois individual income taxes.
Taxpayers can also free file their Illinois returns separately through MyTax Illinois.

What should I do if I cannot file today?
The state of Illinois automatically grants a six-month extension to file your Illinois individual income tax return (Form IL-1040).
For calendar year filers, the extended due date is October 15.
If you receive a federal extension of more than six months, you will automatically receive the same extension for your Illinois return.
Note: An extension of time to file does not extend the amount of time you have to pay any tax owed.
