The 2024 Illinois Tax Filing Season is Open!
Taxpayers encouraged to file electronically, choose direct deposit
The Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR) begins accepting and processing 2023 state individual income tax returns today, Monday, January 29.

Things to note:

Refunds for electronically-filed, error-free returns with direct deposit in approximately four weeks

Earned Income Tax Credit increased to 20% of the federal EITC and expanded to include taxpayers 18+ (with or without qualifying child), 65+ (without qualifying child), and those with an IRS-issued Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)

Volunteer Emergency Worker Credit is awarded to volunteer fire service emergency workers and can be used to reduce the Illinois individual income tax owed by up to $500

2023 tax filing deadline is Monday, April 15, 2024
