Disaster Relief for Taxpayers Affected by Hurricane Ian
The Illinois Department of Revenue will waive penalties and interest for taxpayers who cannot file or pay on time as a result of Hurricane Ian (September 2022).
What do I need to do?
Write "Hurricane Ian – September 2022" in red on the top of the return and on the envelope containing your return or payment. Also send a brief written explanation of why you cannot file or pay on time and be sure to clearly indicate a request for abatement of penalties and interest. Include your name, account number (if using a Social Security number, include only the last four digits), mailing address, and an estimate of when you believe you can file or pay. Additionally, you may send your request for abatement of penalties and interest electronically to REV.DisasterRelief@illinois.gov.
This waiver applies to affected taxpayers for payments or returns due between September 23, 2022, and February 15, 2023.
