2022 Illinois Tax Filing Season Begins Monday, January 24
File electronically, request direct deposit for fastest refund
The Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR) will begin accepting 2021 state individual income tax returns on Monday, January 24, 2022, the same date that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) begins accepting federal individual income tax returns.
IDOR anticipates that electronically filed, error-free returns should receive a direct deposit refund in approximately four weeks.
The 2021 tax filing deadline is Monday, April 18.
Note: Victims of severe storms and tornadoes in December 2021 have until May 16, 2022, to file various individual and business tax returns and make income tax payments.
