City Council Meets On Monday, August 17
City Council will meet on Monday, August 17, at 7 p.m. The meeting will include the regular business of the City Council, as well as meetings of the Finance & Administration Committee and Community Development Committee.

Community Shred Event Coming Up This Weekend (August 15)
Clear out unwanted documents and safely dispose of sensitive information at the Community Shred Event on Saturday, August 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Public Works facility (1111 Joseph J. Schwab Road). Safely dispose of sensitive documents and help reduce landfill waste. Please note the following guidelines:
This event is first-come, first-served, and available to residents of Des Plaines only. Once the shredding truck has reached capacity, the event will conclude. Proof of residency may be required. Business materials are not accepted.
There is a 2-box maximum per vehicle, and only paper products will be accepted. Staples and paper clips are allowed, but binders, binder clips, butterfly clips, rubber bands, and other metal or plastic should be removed before disposal.
Three ring binders and the like cannot be put into the machine. Paper in binders will need to be removed prior to shredding.

Lee Street to be Closed Temporarily Starting August 17 for Railroad Crossing Work
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that repairs by the Union Pacific Railroad to the railroad crossing on Lee Street (U.S. Route 12), just south of Miner Street/Northwest Highway (U.S. Route 14) in downtown Des Plaines, will require a full closure starting next Monday, August 17.
A detour will direct motorists to Oakton Street, River Road and U.S. 14. The work is being overseen by the railroad and is expected to be completed by 5 p.m. on Friday, August 28.
The public should expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to detour signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
Join Us for the Summer Finale: Food Truck Round Up at Library Plaza on August 18
The final Food Truck Round Up of the season is now less than a week away! The City of Des Plaines will wrap up the 2026 Food Truck Round Up series at Library Plaza (1501 Ellinwood Street) on Tuesday, August 18, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Grab a bite to eat from the food trucks, shop from artisans, and enjoy live music by Griffin Crowder beginning at 5:30 p.m. Limited picnic table seating is available, and attendees are welcome to bring lawn chairs.
Parking is available at nearby public garages, including the Des Plaines Public Library Garage, Metropolitan Square Parking Garage, and Civic Center Garage. Visit desplainesil.gov/foodtruckroundup for additional parking information and event updates.
Police Department Open House
The Des Plaines Police Department will host an open house for its newly remodeled police station at the Municipal Complex on Tuesday, August 18. Residents are invited to visit the Police Department at 1418 Miner Street between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. for a guided tour.
This will be a great opportunity to see the improvements firsthand, meet members of the Police Department, and learn more about the work they do every day to serve our community.
Tours will be conducted approximately every 15 minutes. Free parking will be available in the Civic Center Parking Garage.
