On July 5, 2026, at approximately 8:12 a.m., Des Plaines Police responded to the Justpol Automotive business in the 1000 Block of S. Lee Street for the report of a suspicious person. Cook County Dispatch informed officers that the caller observed an unknown subject inside the building on a surveillance camera. When officers arrived, they spoke with the complainants who stated that they had seen two subjects inside and did not believe they have left the property. The officer then observed damage to the bottom panel of a garage door large enough for a person to enter or exit from.
Officers surrounded the building and ultimately entered to clear the business. At that time, no one was located inside the business, and a walkthrough was conducted with the business owner. The owner identified multiple areas that appeared disturbed including an area by the desk where a container that had contained coins was now missing. Damaged was caused to the exterior garage door and also on a vehicle within the building. The officer then watched the surveillance footage which showed the subject walking throughout the building. As the footage continues, the subject is seen riding and damaging a moped within the business and wandering throughout the showroom and front office.
Shortly after this, a DPPD Sergeant who had seen the footage noted that a subject matching the description of the video was seen in the 1500 Block of Miner Street. Officers responded to that location and identified the subject as the above, Antiwone Rudd. Rudd was taken into custody, and an immediate search of his person was conducted yielding a large number of coins consistent with those reported stolen from the business. Within Rudd's possessions was also multiple items that had be identified as stolen by the business owner.
Rudd and the items were transported to the Des Plaines Police station. Once there, due to the nature of the incident, the officers contacted the Cook County State's Attorney's Office with the details of the case. On July 6, charges were approved for Rudd.
Rudd was subsequently arrested for one felony count of Burglary. He was later brought to a Cook County courthouse for a detention hearing.

On June 17, 2026, Des Plaines Police received information that a Cadillac Escalade was registered in Illinois using a counterfeit title in January. In March, the vehicle was flagged as part of an investigation and using license plate reading technology, was notified that the Cadillac was frequenting areas in the northwest suburbs. While following up with the investigation, officers were able to locate the vehicle and ran the Illinois state registration through the database. This alerted officers that the vehicle and the license plate were both listed as stolen.
Officers pulled behind the vehicle and activated their overhead emergency lights stopping the Cadillac in the 800 Block of Hollywood Avenue. Upon approach of the driver, officers spoke with Rene Garibay-Ramirez and notified him the reason for the stop. During this interaction, officers noted that on multiple points on the vehicle where the VIN was present, it appeared to be tampered with. Eventually, Garibay-Ramirez was asked to exit the vehicle, and he was taken into custody.
Garibay-Ramirez was transported to the Des Plaines Police station where he refused to comment regarding the incident. The Cook County State's Attorney's Office was contacted and who approved a felony charge. Garibay-Ramirez was subsequently arrested for one felony count of Receiving/Possessing/Selling a Stolen Vehicle. He was cited and released with his court information.
