Spring Safety Tips from Des Plaines Police Department
Dear 7th Ward Residents,
Spring is officially here, and following recent conversations with the Des Plaines Police Department, I want to share a few seasonal safety reminders to help keep our community safe.
Be Alert to Increased Activity
With warmer weather comes increased foot traffic and vehicle activity, as well as more opportunities for theft. Please lock your vehicles, remove valuables from plain sight, and secure your home when away. Many crimes of opportunity can be prevented with these simple steps.
Watch for Scams and Suspicious Behavior
Spring often brings door-to-door solicitors and, at times, fraudulent activity. Do not feel pressured to engage with unfamiliar individuals. If something seems unusual, report it to the Police Department.
Traffic and Pedestrian Safety
Des Plaines Police remind drivers to remain alert, especially in residential areas where children and cyclists are more active. Please obey speed limits and traffic controls—these small actions help prevent serious accidents.
When to Call 911
If you witness a crime in progress, an emergency, or suspicious activity requiring immediate attention, call 911. If you’re unsure, it’s always better to call. For non-emergency concerns, please contact the Police Department’s non-emergency line.
Stay Connected
Residents are encouraged to stay informed through community alerts and neighborhood communication channels. You can also follow the Des Plaines Police Department on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/desplainespolice
Working together, we can keep the 7th Ward safe this spring.
Yours in service,
Patsy Smith
