Ward 6 Residents,
At 7 p.m. tonight, the Des Plaines Planning & Zoning Board will meet in Room 102 at City Hall. One of the items they’ll be considering is a development proposal for a Costco Business Center in the southern part of our Ward, which I know many residents will find of interest. All residents are encouraged to attend, and public comments regarding the requests will be heard during the public hearings for each application.
Project Overview:
Costco is seeking approval to redevelop parts of three lots at the south end of the existing O’Hare Lake Office Park, totaling approximately 14.29 acres. As proposed, the project would include:
- Demolishing the existing building at 2400 E. Devon Avenue
- Constructing new facilities on that site and on the recently cleared 2200 E. Devon Avenue parcel next door
- Filling in part of the south end of Peterson Lake
The proposed construction includes a 137,327-square-foot Costco Business Center, which is open to all Costco members and offers a selection of bulk and business-focused products that differ from a typical Costco. The project would also add a Costco Fuel Center with 24 gas pumps as well as 415 parking stalls. To accommodate the building, fuel center, and parking, the south end of Peterson Lake would be reshaped into a more rectangular lot. Additionally, a new four-way traffic signal is proposed at the southwest corner of the existing property.
Also on tonight’s agenda is a text amendment to the City Code to the C-7 High Density Campus District, jointly requested by the property owner RSA Properties II LLC and Costco Wholesale Corporation as the proposed redeveloper. The changes would allow for more commercial and retail use on the property in the future, beyond the existing office buildings and parking lots.
