 Message from Mayor Goczkowski
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the final Food Truck Round Up of the season and our Patriot Day Ceremony. These events are a great reminder of the strength and spirit of our community, from coming together over good food and music to honoring the lives lost on September 11.
There are more opportunities to stay connected in the coming weeks. On Saturday, September 20, the Des Plaines Fire Department will host its annual Open House at Fire Station 63. This hands-on event offers a look at life as a firefighter and is a great outing for families.
The following weekend, on Saturday, September 27, join members of Bike & Walk Des Plaines for the 10th annual Community Bike Ride. This free event takes place on the Des Plaines River Trail, starting at Camp Ground Road Woods (entrance at E. Algonquin Rd. and Joseph Schwab Rd.). New this year, participants can also choose to take a scenic walk along the trail instead of biking.
Looking ahead to October, we invite you to Harvest Hoot, a fall celebration with seasonal fun for all ages. Details on these events can be found below.
In the meantime, please share this e-news with your family, friends, and neighbors, and encourage them to subscribe. If I can be of assistance to you, please feel free to contact me at 847-391-5301 or agoczkowski@desplainesil.gov.
Yours in service,
Andrew Goczkowski

City Hall Serving As Donation Site for Diaper Drive
As part of Diaper Need Awareness Week, Des Plaines City Hall is serving as a donation site for a diaper drive through this Friday (September 19). The drive benefits Breakfast with Baby, a Salvation Army program that provides diapers and other essentials to families in need. All sizes of diapers and pull ups are welcome, and they can be new or opened packs. Drop off your donations in the City Hall lobby and help support families in our community!
Mayor Goczkowski presented a proclamation to representatives from Breakfast With Baby on Sept. 15, recognizing Diaper Need Awareness Week.

Save the Date for Harvest Hoot
Oakton College | October 18 from noon to 4 p.m.
Join us on October 18 from noon to 4 p.m. at Oakton College for this free outdoor event featuring an inflatable corn maze, live pumpkin carving, and up-close encounters with birds of prey at the Stillman Nature Center’s Squawk and Gawk booth. Shop more than two dozen local vendors at the artisan market and grab a bite from your favorite food trucks.
As the event continues to grow, we’re doubling the fun with two stages of live entertainment. Kids will love the family-friendly acts on the Lil’ Hoot stage, while the Hootenanny stage will feature a band sure to get everyone on their feet. Also new this year: a special appearance by Glinda the Good Witch! Don’t miss your chance to snap a photo with the most “popular” Ozian in Des Plaines.
Families can also enjoy pumpkin painting, sugar skull decorating, and other seasonal surprises. Learn more at desplainesil.gov/harvesthoot
