 Message from Mayor Goczkowski
Earlier this week, the City Council approved a long-term lease and operations agreement for the historic bank building at 678 Lee Street. Vacant since 2019, this prominent downtown space will soon be transformed into a new dining concept by the team behind Foxtail on the Lake, a popular restaurant that opened last year near Lake Opeka. This public-private partnership represents a significant investment in our city’s future, one that will help activate our downtown and attract even more activity and economic growth.
We're also seeing that momentum throughout Des Plaines. In recent weeks, we celebrated the ribbon cutting for Guzman y Gomez on Mannheim Road and awarded a Business Assistance Grant to Galaxy Hot Pot & Grill. These milestones reflect the City’s commitment to supporting small businesses and strengthening every corner of our community.
Outside of our business growth, there’s plenty to be excited about. Join us on Tuesday, September 9, for our final Food Truck Roundup of the season. It promises to be an evening of great food, live music, and fun at Rosemary S. Argus Friendship Park. Then on Saturday, September 20, families are invited to Fire Station 63’s Open House for a hands-on look at life as a Des Plaines firefighter. Details on both of those, as well as other upcoming events, can be found below.
In the meantime, please share this e-news with your family, friends, and neighbors, and encourage them to subscribe. If I can be of assistance to you, please feel free to contact me at 847-391-5301 or agoczkowski@desplainesil.gov.
Yours in service,
Andrew Goczkowski
