 Message from Mayor Goczkowski
As Mayor, my top priority is building a brighter future for Des Plaines by listening to the ideas and needs of everyone who calls our city home. Tomorrow you will have an excellent opportunity to share your thoughts on our plans to revitalize, rejuvenate, renew, revamp, and redefine our city.
On Thursday, August 21, at 6:30 p.m., we’ll be hosting a public open house at City Hall to gather input on the Oakton and Lee Street corridor. Based on resident and business feedback, City staff will develop an action plan to guide future improvements in this area, focusing on enhancing public spaces, walkability, parking, and business support.
Please join us and make your voice heard. The more residents and businesses who attend, the better we can capture what matters most to our community.
As we shape the future of our city through the Oakton and Lee Street Corridor Action Plan, we’re also beginning a new chapter here in Des Plaines. Some schools are already back in session, while others will be resuming soon. To our students, families, educators, and support staff: your dedication is planting the seeds for tomorrow’s leaders. Thank you for all you do, and best wishes for a successful and inspiring school year ahead. Together, we’re building a city that grows.
Finally, a quick reminder that City offices will be closed on Monday, September 1, in observance of Labor Day. I hope you find time to relax and recharge during the long weekend.
In the meantime, please share this e-news with your family, friends, and neighbors, and encourage them to subscribe. If I can be of assistance to you, please feel free to contact me at 847-391-5301 or agoczkowski@desplainesil.gov.
Yours in service,
Andrew Goczkowski

Help Shape the Future of Oakton and Lee Streets!
Public Open House at City Hall | August 21, 6:30 p.m. - 8 p.m.
On Thursday, August 21, at 6:30 p.m. we are hosting a public open house at City Hall to welcome community feedback on the future of the Oakton and Lee Street corridor. All residents are encouraged to attend.
City staff members are in the process of developing an action plan to guide future improvements in this area of Des Plaines. The plan will address priorities such as public spaces, development, parking, walkability, and business support.
Why do we need your input? To ensure the success of this action plan, we need to hear from a wide range of people including both long-time and new residents, business owners, institutions, school & park representatives, civic groups, community organizations, and more.
If you aren’t available to attend this public open house but have feedback to provide, there will be plenty of additional chances as this project moves forward including additional outreach efforts and public meetings.

Avoiding Roofing Scams
Roofing companies and insurance adjusters have been going door-to-door in Des Plaines following the recent severe weather. Using an unregistered vendor could leave you susceptible to scams, fraud, and possibly more damage to your house. Protect yourself by checking contractor information before agreeing to any work.
- Roofing contractors must be licensed by the State of Illinois. Check licenses through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation at idfpr.illinois.gov or by calling 1-800-560-6420.
- Door-to-door solicitors must also be licensed by the City of Des Plaines. Always ask to see their City-issued permit.
If you spot a fraudulent solicitor, or have fallen victim to a scam, please report it to the Des Plaines Police Department.

ComEd Utility Expansion at Graceland Avenue and Miner Street
Road Closures through August 25
ComEd is performing infrastructure improvements at the intersection of Graceland Avenue and Miner Street. Due to utility conflicts, the schedule has been modified, and work is expected to be completed by August 25. The project involves the installation of several electrical manholes and duct packages to support utility expansion and will be carried out in two phases.
Motorists should anticipate delays and allow additional time for trips through the area. Drivers are encouraged to pay close attention to detour signs in the work zones, obey posted speed limits, and remain alert for workers and equipment.
For a full list of impacts, detour routes, and closure dates, visit the City of Des Plaines website.
