City Offices Closure
In observance of Memorial Day, all City of Des Plaines government offices will be closed on Monday, May 26, 2025.
Essential services such as police and fire will remain fully operational. Garbage and recycling collection will be delayed by one day for the week.
Residents are invited to participate in local Memorial Day events, including the annual ceremony at Lake Park. Additional details can be found on the City’s website.
First Food Truck Round Up Next Week
Tuesday, May 20 | 5-8 p.m. | Rosemary S. Argus Friendship Park and Conservatory
Join the City of Des Plaines as we kick-start the summer fun at this year's first Food Truck Round Up! There'll be plenty of fun indoors and outdoors. Enjoy food trucks, live music by aGOOStic (beginning at 5:30 p.m.), bubble activities, local vendors, and more. Don't forget to check out Friendship Park Conservatory's Open House and spring plant sale!

Get Ready to Rock at Taste of Des Plaines!
The fun doesn’t stop with the Food Truck Round Up—Taste of Des Plaines is just around the corner! Join us in the heart of downtown for this beloved two-day street festival happening over Father’s Day weekend, June 13–14.
This event includes live entertainment on two stages, local restaurants serving their specialties, beer tents, and fun for the whole family.
Come and listen to live music beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 13, and 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 14. Entertainment includes 7th Heaven, Hairbangers Ball, LOUDERNOW, Fearless: A Tribute to Taylor Swift, Terry Byrne Band, and more!

Notice of Water Rate Changes
The City of Des Plaines will be adjusting water rates later this year to maintain a reliable supply of clean drinking water for all residents and businesses. Currently, residents are charged $6.260 for every 100 cubic feet of water. Starting June 1, 2025, this will increase to $6.401 per 100 cubic feet.
Rate changes are never made lightly, but they are essential to ensure that Des Plaines can continue providing clean, dependable water for future generations. In this case, the price increase reflects a rise in costs from the City of Chicago, which supplies our water from Lake Michigan.
Even with this adjustment, our water rates remain in-line with other nearby municipalities. We are positioned near the median compared with our neighbors.

Planning & Zoning Board Workshop
The Planning and Zoning Board will be hosting a workshop on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at 7 p.m. in room 102 of Des Plaines Civic Center (1420 Miner Street) for a proposed development at 9600 E. Golf Road (the former Fisherman's Dude Ranch).
The property owner and developer, Napleton, proposes to develop an approximately 12-acre site with multi-family and townhouse residential buildings. The developer and team will provide an overview of their preliminary concepts, answer questions, and collect feedback about this development. Conceptual plans will be shared on desplainesil.gov/workshops in advance of the meeting.
Lawn Watering Restrictions
It's getting warm outside! Temporary watering guidelines are implemented annually to conserve water during hot weather. From May 15 to September 15, watering hours are from:
- 5 a.m. - 8 a.m. (morning)
- 7 p.m. through 10 p.m. (evening)
Even-numbered addresses may water on even-numbered calendar days. Odd numbered-addresses may water on odd-numbered calendar days.
Please Note: Restrictions may be waived for new plantings that require more watering after initial installation (such as sod, trees and bushes). Please contact the Public Works Department at 847-391-5464 for more information.
