Message from Mayor Goczkowski

It took until February for Des Plaines to finally have its first significant snowfall. I am grateful to our Public Works Department for their work all day yesterday to ensure our roads were cleared of snow and ice. On Monday, the City Council hosted our second public workshop regarding the City’s Downtown Economic Development Strategic Plan. During this meeting the City’s consulting team presented options relating to study areas in the downtown area and future public investments that will help Des Plaines attract more private development to revitalize the downtown. I deeply appreciated all the residents' input during the public comment time. I’m thrilled that our downtown plans are moving forward. I am also excited to announce that the City is starting another video series called “Community Connection.” In this series, I’ll highlight positive and exciting happenings throughout the City of Des Plaines. We’ll have the first video in the series posted on our social media channels and channel 17 later this month. If you have good news to share, you can submit your ideas on our website at desplainesil.gov/communityconnection. Please read the community updates below regarding City offices being closed in observation of President’s Day, important information regarding snow removal, the latest edition of the Hot Seat, Fire Department Division Chief Dave Schuman being named First Responder of the Month, and an extra special appearance for the Des Plaines Fire Department on Fox 32. City Council Preview

City Council will meet on Tuesday, February 18. Here is a noteworthy item from the agenda: 

• Consideration of the Approval of the Term Sheet for the Purchase of 678 Lee Street (White Bank Building) – RESOLUTION R-38-25

City Offices Closed

City offices will be closed on Monday, February 17 in observance of Presidents Day. Refuse collection will follow its normal schedule and the City Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, February 18.

Snow Removal

During winter weather, home and business owners should clear sidewalks, fire hydrants (clear 3 feet around), and any handicap-accessible parking spaces on their property. For more information, visit desplainesil.gov/snowremoval.  

After a two-inch (2") snowfall, it is unlawful to park any vehicle, or to allow any vehicle to remain parked, on snow routes until snow removal operations are completed. View our snow routes at desplainesil.gov/snowmap.

Journal & Topics City Council Candidate Debate

The City of Des Plaines will be broadcasting the Journal and Topics debate for local candidates running in the upcoming April 1 election. Tune in to DPTV or desplainesil.gov/livestream to watch the debate on March 6 at 7 p.m.  or attend in-person at Des Plaines City Hall. The public is invited to attend and there is no charge. Questions for the debate can be submitted by local residents via email at journalnews@journal-topics.info.

Division Chief Dave Schuman Honored as WGN's First Responder of the Month

Last month, Des Plaines Fire Department's Division Chief Dave Schuman was honored as First Responder of the Month on WGN TV! Thanks, DC Schuman, for everything you do in our community. We're lucky to have you!

DPFD Featured on Fox 32's Cooking with Fire

Fox 32 Chicago featured the Des Plaines Fire Department on their monthly Cooking with Fire segment! Natalie Bomke stopped by Station 61 to make turkey burgers and sweet potato fries with Firefighter/Paramedics Benny Baltazar and Dylan McAbee. Great job, DPFD!
