Police Department Body Camera and In-Car Camera systems
The police department implemented body cameras in 2015 to work in conjunction with the in-car video systems. Over the course of the contract, the department had numerous quality and service issues with the body camera vendor. The police department was notified that as of February 28, 2025, our current in-house server and software would no longer be serviced by our vendor. The police department contacted fourteen area departments, and all are using or are in the process of implementing the Axon Enterprise, Inc. body camera and in-car systems with cloud storage.
After discussions with numerous other police departments in the area, it was clear that Axon Enterprise, Inc. was the best fit for our department’s needs and the only vendor to offer all the department’s preferred features. Axon Enterprise, Inc. will supply our department with 107 Axon Body4 cameras, 30 Fleet 3 Advanced in-car video systems, and unlimited storage to Axon Evidence cloud storage. This agreement includes replacement of body cameras every 2.5 years and fleet in-car cameras every five years. This ten-year agreement includes a fixed fee for the first five years, and a fixed fee with just under an 11% increase for the last 5 years. Currently the product sees a 5-7% increase each year, so having a ten-year contact will be a significant cost savings to our department.
Nuisance Animal Removal Discount Program
Staff were asked to provide an alternative program to assist residents in the removal of nuisance wildlife from private property. In 2021, based on vendor performance and a legal opinion by corporation council, the City discontinued the program of removing nuisance wildlife from resident’s private property. Staff contacted other local municipalities and learned that other municipalities have agreed with A-B-C Humane Wildlife to offer their resident’s discounted nuisance wildlife removal services. Staff contacted A-B-C Humane Wildlife to see if an arrangement could be made to discount prices to our residents, and they agreed to such an arrangement.
An update to the city website with information including prices would be posted if city council is in agreement to this change.
