City Council Preview
City Council will meet on Monday, June 17 at 7 p.m. Here are a few noteworthy items from the agenda:
- A proclamation recognizing Juneteenth.
- The Council will approve the purchase of equipment that allows emergency personnel to see on a map whether rail crossings are blocked or expected to be blocked in order to determine if an alternative route is necessary. The equipment is intended for four (4) outer belt crossings and one Metra line crossing.
- The Council will consider and discuss of the City’s prohibition of keeping or harboring bees, bee hives, and apiaries.
Congratulations, Des Plaines Fire Department Team
At our last City Council meeting, Mayor Andrew Goczkowski swore in Matthew Matzl as our new Fire Chief. Chief Matzl has worked in Des Plaines since 2001, and his journey through the ranks in the Des Plaines Fire Department has uniquely prepared him for his role as Fire Chief.
We also promoted Joseph Ciraulo to Deputy Chief, Michael Rioch to Battalion Chief, Daniel Garhan to Lieutenant, and Robert Chapman to Firefighter/Paramedic/Engineer. We swore in new team members, Dylan Lersch and Ryan Schelin as Firefighter/Paramedics.
Congratulations and thank you for your commitment to Des Plaines!
Pride Month in Des Plaines
Last week, local elected officials and community members gathered for a Pride Month proclamation and flag raising at the Des Plaines Civic Center. Together, we can build a society that celebrates the beauty of diversity where every individual is valued, respected, and embraced for who they are. Happy Pride Month, Des Plaines.
