Summer days mean warm temperatures and fun times with family and friends outdoors. Water safety is a lifelong endeavor, but it only takes a few minutes to learn the 5 Layers of Protection. You never know which layer will save a life!
- Have barriers and alarm systems installed in backyard pools and water features.
- Designate adult supervision any time children are in or around water.
- Equip yourself and your child with water competency skills to reduce the risk of drowning.
- Use Coast Guard-approved life jackets when around open bodies of water.
- Be prepared for an emergency by getting CPR certified and learning water rescue skills.

Summer Pet Safety
We’ve seen a spike in temps this week. NEVER leave your pets in parked vehicles. Animals can die of heatstroke within 15 minutes, and cracking the car windows doesn’t help. For more information, visit weather.gov/safety/heat-children-pets.
