Message from Mayor Goczkowski

Last week, three new colleagues joined us on the City Council. Welcome, Aldermen Sayad, Walsten and Charewicz, along with Alderman Moylan who is back for another term. On behalf of the Council, I’d like to express sincere thanks to Aldermen Zadrozny, Chester, Ebrahimi, whose terms have ended. Thank you for your service to our City! We wish you the best of luck with all future endeavors.

Mother’s Day is this weekend. I want to take a moment to recognize the wonderful moms in my life. My wife, Bridgett and my mom, Jan. Both are amazing women. I’m so grateful for their love and support. Happy Mother’s Day!

Arbor Day

Des Plaines has once again been designated as a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation. We appreciate all our Public Works team does to keep our City looking green and beautiful, and for supporting this environmental initiative year round! Last month, students from Terrace School planted a tree on the school grounds and received an Arbor Day proclamation.

Capital Improvement Projects

The City will start on a number of street and alley improvements, along with stormwater improvements. Visit desplaines.org/capitalprojects to review the list of 2023 projects, sign up for traffic and construction email updates and check out our construction web map. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to improve our city.

Food Truck Round Up

Kick off summer at the first-ever Food Truck Round Up on May 23 at Rosemary S. Argus Friendship Park and Conservatory!

National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive

The 29th annual National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) food drive is Saturday, May 13. Residents can donate nonperishable food items to be picked up by their letter carriers and community volunteers on this day. Local businesses also can participate by donating on Friday, May 12. Food collected in Des Plaines will benefit residents in need through Self-Help Closet & Pantry (SHC&P) of Des Plaines.

Advocate Health Care’s Outpatient Center Expands

Advocate Medical Group Imaging recently opened in Des Plaines. This medical facility is a part of Advocate Health Care's Outpatient Center on Rand Rd. Welcome! Thank you for your continued investment in our community.
