Halston Market Grand Opening
Last week, we officially opened the model home at Halston Market with a ribbon cutting and grand opening celebration. Developed by M/I Homes, Inc., Halston Market is an enclave of 125 new construction townhomes on Oakton Street. City representatives, including Mayor Goczkowski, Alderman Brookman and Alderman Smith, joined team members from M/I Homes in the ceremonial ribbon cutting.
Public Works Branch Collection
In addition to the yard waste collection provided by LRS from April-November, Public Works provides supplemental branch collection beginning in May. Get the collection schedule on the April page of our Community Calendar at desplaines.org/annualcalendar.
- Place branches on the parkway by 7 a.m. on collection day. It may take up to 2 weeks to collect each zone. If branches are placed out late, incorrectly, or cannot be reached, collection will not be attempted again until the next month.
- Do not obstruct sidewalks or streets.
- Branches should be 2 feet or longer, cleanly cut (without roots), and smaller than six inches in diameter, with cut ends pointing to the curb.
Algonquin Road resurfacing begins April 26
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) just announced that resurfacing of Algonquin Rd., from Elmhurst Rd. (Illinois 83) to Wolf Rd. in Des Plaines will begin, weather permitting, Wednesday, April 26.
To complete the work intermittent daytime lane closures will be required. Access to residences and businesses within the work zone will be maintained throughout construction, anticipated to be completed in October.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through these areas. Alternative routes are encouraged. Read the full press release about the project.
Flood Safety Tips
Heavy rain can result in flooding, which can create dangerous circumstances both inside and outside. These tips can help keep you safe during a flood:
- Do not walk through flowing water or drive through flooded areas.
- Stay away from downed power lines and electrical wires.
- Look out for animals that have been flooded out of their homes.
- Be alert for gas leaks and turn off the electricity in your home.
- Unplug sanitary sewer ejector pits (typically in basements).
- Beware of CO exhaust from gas-powered machines like generators.
- Use protective gear when cleaning up and clean everything that got wet.
