Spring Construction is Underway
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) recently started several projects in Des Plaines that may impact your travel.
An improvement project requiring lane closures on Oakton St., from River Rd. to just east of Riverside Dr./Algonquin Rd. began on April 3.
This $2.1 million project will resurface the roadway, construct new ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps, install retaining walls and build a new multi-use path on the north side of Oakton Street, between River Road and the Des Plaines River Trail.
At least one lane in each direction will remain open throughout construction, anticipated to be completed in late November. Read the full press release here.
Repairs to the Miner St. (U.S. 14) bridge over the Des Plaines are underway. Miner St., between River Rd. and Busse Highway, will be reduced to one lane in both directions, with reduced lane widths over the bridge. Several turns in the vicinity will be prohibited and access to Campground Rd. from Miner St. will be closed through mid-May. Please follow posted detours. Read the full press release about the project.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through these areas. Alternative routes are encouraged. Visit idot.illinois.gov for more information.
