Prevent Pipe Bursts
The temperatures are expected to dip later this week. Freezing temperatures can cause the water in pipes to freeze, potentially causing a burst. Pipes that are outside (sprinkler lines), in unheated indoor areas (attics/basements), and against uninsulated walls are more likely to freeze. Here’s a few tips to avoid pipe freezes and bursts:
🚰 Keep garage doors closed and cabinet doors containing plumbing open.
🚰 Let cold water drip from faucets served by exposed pipes.
🚰 Keep the same temperature both during the day and night and no lower than 55° F, even when not at home.
🚰 Close indoor valves supplying outdoor hose bibs. Drain outdoor water sprinkler supply and hose bibs.
🚰 Insulate unheated areas of your home and cover exposed pipes with a pipe sleeve, heat tape, heat cable, or newspaper.
