2022 CIP Concrete Program Update - August 26th
The contractor is continuing with removal and replacement of existing concrete sidewalk, curb and driveway aprons at many locations throughout the City. Approximately 75% of the locations have been replaced. Asphalt replacement and topsoil and seed installation is following the concrete replacement to restore any disturbed areas.
Starting on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, the contractor will begin work on the installation of the new sidewalk on the south side of Howard Avenue, just east and west of Douglas Avenue. Work will include excavation, sidewalk and driveway removals, placement of aggregate base, sidewalk installation and restoration of grass areas adjacent to the new sidewalk. The duration of the work is estimated to take approximately two to three (2-3) weeks depending on weather. An informational letter notifying affected residents of the upcoming work was delivered today. A second letter will be sent to residents in the event driveway access becomes restricted to complete the work.
Also starting on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, the contractor will begin construction of the permeable alleys. An informational letter was mailed to all affected addresses last week. A second letter describing the alley access restrictions (beginning August 31) was delivered today. The permeable alley construction is estimated to take three to four (3-4) weeks. During this time, vehicle access to the alley will be restricted. If a resident’s parking space is only accessible via the alley, the resident will need to park on side streets for the duration of construction. Similarly, garbage containers will need to be relocated and placed on adjacent side streets. There will be no access to the alley once construction begins. Operations for the alley construction include pavement removal, excavation, installation of open-graded aggregate base, installation of concrete curbing (ribbons), installation of permeable concrete pavement, and restoration.
