Message from Mayor Andrew Goczkowski
We were so grateful to be able to host our annual Independence Day festivities a few weeks ago. The fireworks at Oakton and the parade on Center Street, showcased what our community is all about.
Ald. Sean Oskerka, Ald. Artur Zadrozny, Mayor Andrew Goczkowski, Oakton President - Joianne Smith, Ph.D., Oakton Trustee - Benjamin Salzberg
Our neighbors in Highland Park had their community shaken to the core with the horrific events that took place at their Fourth of July parade.
On behalf of the elected officials and entire City of Des Plaines, we condemn this violence and are grieving with the Highland Park Community. We are heartbroken for the victims and their families, and extend our deepest sympathies.
As always, feel free to contact me directly at agoczkowski@desplaines.org or 847-391-5301. Please share this E-News with your family, friends and neighbors and encourage them to subscribe.

City Council Update
On the Agenda: July 18
Council will meet on Monday. Here are some noteworthy items on the agenda:
- At last month’s Planning and Zoning Board meeting the Board voted three to three on the necessary zoning change and tentative plat of subdivision requests regarding the property of 622 Graceland-1368 Webford and 1332 Webford. Approval of the zoning change request is required by the City Council to move forward with this project and will be discussed at Monday’s meeting.
- Community Development has agenda items related to a Cannabis Infusing business looking to lease a space in Des Plaines. The petitioner is seeking a text amendment and a Conditional Use Permit for the property at 1245 Forest Ave. A cannabis infuser directly incorporates cannabis or cannabis concentrate into a product formulation to create a cannabis-infused product. Cannabis infusing does not involve the growing of cannabis flower or manufacturing of raw cannabis into a product. In addition, consumption or retail sales are not permitted at an infuser facility and delivery outside of a licensed cannabis business establishment is strictly prohibited.
