The Cook County Department of Veterans Affairs welcomed its new Director of Veterans Affairs, Eric Armstrong, this week.
Director Armstrong has worked in the veteran space for over two decades and will utilize his expertise to strengthen services for County veterans, helping to advance the mission, goals and objectives of Veterans Affairs.
As a former Marine, Director Armstrong has spent his career serving veterans in higher education, starting as an Admissions Advisor at the Keller Graduate School of Management at DeVry University. His journey included stops at the University of Illinois - Chicago as an Assistant Director of Student Veteran Affairs, where he administered veteran programs and services, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, to Northern Illinois University where he served as the Director of Military and Post-Traditional Student Services and Title IX Hearing Officer.
His final stop prior to joining the County was as the Assistant Dean of Students at North Central College, where he led the Student Affairs and Athletics division overseeing a comprehensive set of programs to engage and support all students, with a focus on students from underserved backgrounds.
Director Armstrong looks forward to ensuring that vital programming and services are available to veterans throughout Cook County.
