Open Enrollment Pro Tip: HMO or PPO

Deciding Between an HMO or PPO

During Open Enrollment, you can choose between an HMO or PPO health plan. Which one is best for you and your family?

PPO Plans. A PPO is a type of health plan that gives you more flexibility to choose where you go for care, without a referral from a primary care physician (PCP) or limiting you to in-network providers. PPOs often have higher monthly premiums and out-of-pocket costs like copays, coinsurance and deductibles.

HMO Plans. HMO plans usually require you to select a primary care physician (PCP) to coordinate your care within your plan’s network. You may need a referral from your PCP to see a specialist. However, care coordinated by a PCP may lower overall healthcare costs for you and your family.

As you make your selection, consider the structure of each plan, the in-network providers, payroll contribution amounts, and overall out-of-pocket costs.

Please be sure to review all of your options carefully and click “FINISH” by Thursday, October 31 11:59 CST.
