The Cook County Department of Environment and Sustainability has partnered with South Suburban College to establish the Center for Hard to Recycle Materials (CHaRM Center). This new, permanent recycling drop-off facility officially opens on Saturday, April 22 from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. and is available to all Cook County residents. Accepted materials for reuse and recycling include:
- paper, plastic, metal and glass
- clothing and textiles
- styrofoam
- electronics and computers
- personal healthcare equipment

Coinciding with the opening of the CHaRM Center, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency is sponsoring a one-day hazardous waste collection event for residents on Saturday, April 22 from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Accepted hazardous waste materials include:
- oil-based paints, paint thinners and aerosol paints
- used motor oil and old gasoline
- herbicides, insecticides, pesticides and lawn/pool chemicals
- mercury, acids, household batteries and corrosives
- drain cleaners, solvents, antifreeze and hobby chemicals
- fluorescent light bulbs

Both recycling initiatives will be held on Saturday, April 22 from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. at South Suburban College located at 15800 S. State St., South Holland, IL 60473.
