Exemption Deadline

Homeowners: Exemption Applications are
due by August 26

The deadline for homeowners to apply for current property tax exemptions (tax year 2021) is Friday, August 26, 2022. Before applying, homeowners should know that many exemptions automatically renewed this year. Follow these steps to view which exemptions have been applied to your property or to help determine if an online application needs to be filed.

  1. Enter your PIN to view your property details
  2. Review the "Exemption History"
  3. Determine if your exemptions for the 2021 tax year have been applied
  4. Apply online if needed

For more information or in-depth guidance on how to determine if your exemptions have been applied for this 2021 tax year, join the Assessor's Office for a virtual outreach event on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 from 12:00 - 1:00p.m. on Facebook or YouTube. Property Reassessments Continue in
Cook County’s North Suburbs

Reassessments released for Elk Grove and Evanston Townships

The Assessor's Office released initial assessments of residential and commercial properties in Elk Grove and Evanston Townships. By now, property owners should have received their Reassessment Notice in the mail.

The Reassessment Notice reflects the estimated Fair Market Value based on sales of similar property over the past three years. The notice also contains important information such as property characteristics, neighborhood code, and past assessment information. An increase in a property’s value does not indicate the same increase in the property owner’s taxes. The estimated Fair Market Value listed on the Reassessment Notice will be reflected on tax bills in 2023.

If the property characteristics listed on an assessment notice are incorrect, or if the estimated market value of a property is significantly more than what it could sell for in the current real estate market, property owners should consider filing an appeal.

Appeals for properties in Elk Grove can filed until September 1, 2022 and appeals for Evanston can be filed until September 9, 2022.
