The Road to home Ownership with VA Home Loan Programs

VA home loan programs are available to help veterans and surviving spouses buy, build or improve a home or refinance a current home loan—including VA direct loan and VA-backed loans. Learn more about available programs and find out if you are eligible to receive a Certificate of Eligibility for a loan that meets your needs.

For more information on this program, click here.

The Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) provides resources to guide individuals and families through the home ownership process. Through their network of trusted partners, someone will be with you every step of the way. Using an IHDA mortgage product, ensures that you can afford the home you buy. IHDA mortgage products are ideal for borrowers who need extra flexibility or who have limited funds for down payment and/or closing costs yet have the financial means to maintain monthly mortgage payments.

Permanent Rental Housing

The Housing Authority of Cook County (HACC) has opened the site-based wait list for fully furnished studio units at Freedom’s Path III, a permanent supportive housing community serving homeless veterans, located on the Edward Hines, Jr. VA Medical Campus, 5000 S. 5th Ave., Building 214, Hines, IL 60141. This is a rent assistance program where the residents pay 30% of their income towards rent, while the HACC subsidizes the remainder of the rent.

Applications will be available beginning on Monday August 30, 2021 at 10:00am and will close on Friday, September 3, 2021 at 4:00pm. To apply, applicants need to log onto the HACC’s website at www.thehacc.org and click on link in the banner at the top of the home page. Applications must be submitted electronically through the website; no other form of application will be accepted.

If you need assistance or require a reasonable accommodation, please send an email to PBVwaitlist@thehhacc.org and put Freedom’s Path III in the subject line of the email.
