Assessment Calendar and Deadlines

Effective May 11, 2020

Please visit our website to review the updated Assessment Calendar and Deadlines. All dates are subject to change, however any changes made will be indicated by text that reads, "REVISED" next to the date.

Our office is doing all we can to ensure assessments reflect any effects of COVID-19. South suburban reassessments, which are scheduled for this year will be adjusted to reflect estimated effects of this pandemic on property values. North suburban and Chicago portions of Cook County, which are not scheduled for reassessment will also have their property values examined this year to determine what adjustments need to be made due to the economic effects of COVID-19.

Property owners are not required to appeal in order to receive the COVID-19 review and adjustment for eligible properties.

As a refresher, one-third of Cook County is reassessed each year, which is known as a triennial property assessment system. Please refer to the image above as a visual aid. For more information on how the property tax system works in Cook County, click here.

How to File an Appeal Online

As of March 16, 2020, the Assessor's Office is closed to the public. For timely processing, it is recommended to file an appeal online. Practitioners who file appeals representing property owners are required to file appeals online only. Please watch and share this short video explaining the basics of why a property owner would consider filing an appeal and how to get started with an online application.

Our office is doing all we can to ensure our assessments reflect the economic effects of COVID-19. Our analysis is automatic and property owners do not have to file an appeal to receive an appropriate adjustment. Read complete details on Changes to Assessments and Appeals Due to COVID-19.
