In an effort to protect employees and residents from the spread of COVID-19 while maintaining essential County services, President Preckwinkle recently passed an executive order limiting access to the County Building and reducing the number of employees required to work on-site in Offices Under the President through March 30, 2020.
These temporary changes include reducing schedules, requiring some employees to continue to work on-site and directing others to work remotely. By now, each of your Bureau Chiefs or Department Heads should have provided additional direction on office operations and expectations. Please find below some specific information on timekeeping and payroll matters, along with helpful information worth reiterating:
- All employees will continue to be paid during this period; however, the terms of any existing leave of absence will remain in place.
- During this time, employees are not required to swipe in and out regardless of whether they are onsite or working remotely; instead, timekeepers will input all employee time to ensure everyone gets paid appropriately.
- All paper checks processed will be mailed directly to the employee to the address in the payroll system.
- If you need to update your address, please ensure your timekeepers have any changes by March 28, 2020.
- Please remember, all employees directed by your supervisors to work remotely should stay home. Only employees performing essential services that cannot be performed remotely should be on-site during this time.
- While working on-site or remotely, employees should engage in efforts to practice social distancing to prevent and slow the spread of COVID-19. Best practices include avoiding shaking hands and other personal contact and keeping six feet apart from other people when possible. For more specific social distancing guidelines please refer to the email sent out by President Preckwinkle’s office on Tuesday regarding working remotely.
