A Message from the Director

Dear Veterans:

This newsletter contains information about services and benefits you have earned because of your honorable service to our nation.

A new veterans’ home is scheduled to open in Norwood Park at 4250 N. Oak Park Ave. in Chicago by the end of 2019. It will be the first in Chicago and the fifth in Illinois. Other veterans’ homes are in Manteno, LaSalle, Quincy and Anna.

A new law will streamline the process to get a ‘veteran’ designation on Illinois driver’s licenses and state identifications. The law will allow honorably discharged veterans to receive the designation without going to the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs before coming to the Secretary of State. Starting January 1, 2020, veterans can bring their DD214 or other acceptable discharge document directly to a Secretary of State Driver Services facility.

Cook County Veterans Affairs encourages you to share this information with other veterans and their dependents, and to use this newsletter as a reference tool for upcoming veteran activities. Please visit our website: www.cookcountyil.gov/agency/veterans-affairs
