Visit CMAP's improved Data Hub for information about the region
The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) is excited to announce the launch of the redesigned Data Hub. The Data Hub provides vetted and trustworthy information about northeastern Illinois so local governments, community organizations, academic researchers, businesses, and more can learn and make informed decisions about their communities.
The new Data Hub allows you to search or browse by categories and tags. You can find tables or shapefiles for:
- Transit routes and stops
- Greenhouse gas emissions
- Economically disconnected and disinvested areas
- County and municipal boundaries
- Bikeway inventory system
- And much more!

New Community Data Snapshots offer rich resource for northeastern Illinois
CMAP released a new set of Community Data Snapshots to help local leaders and the public track progress and make informed decisions in their communities. These data-rich snapshots — one for each of the region’s 7 counties, 284 municipalities, and 77 Chicago neighborhoods — summarize demographics, housing, employment, transportation habits, and other key details.

CMAP looking for data governance services
CMAP posted a request for proposals (RFP) for data governance services. The consultant will assess CMAP's current practices, propose data governance strategies, develop a governance framework, and help CMAP promote and implement the framework. The deadline for responding is Friday, August 11, at 3:00 p.m.

Learn how to use the Natural Solutions Tool
Friends of the Chicago River is hosting trainings for its new Natural Solutions Tool. You can also email NaturalSolutionsTool@ChicagoRiver.org for additional training requests and collaboration.
Basics training workshop (August 16): Attendees will learn to create detailed data reports summarizing climate, health, equity, and biodiversity data for nearly any of the 1.5 million parcels in the 1,300-square-mile Chicago watershed region. Attendees will also learn how to easily visualize where high priority locations are for implementing nature-based solutions at the regional, city, neighborhood, and parcel scale.
Advanced topics workshop (July 24): This interactive workshop is designed for those who have already begun exploring the tool and are looking for more guidance on how to use it to answer questions within their own unique projects, planning efforts, advocacy initiatives, outreach, and education.

Equitable Transportation Community Explorer to help implement Justice40
The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) released the Equitable Transportation Community Explorer and story map to help implement its Justice40 initiative. Justice40 is a key part of USDOT’s efforts to confront and address decades of underinvestment in transportation. You can view the explorer user guide in English or Spanish and watch a five-minute video about the tool in English or Spanish.

Volunteers needed to measure heat in Chicago
Chicago is seeking volunteers for Heat Watch 2023 — a study to discover which areas of the community are hotter and cooler during an extreme heat event. On one designated campaign day, over three shifts (morning, midday, and evening), volunteers will travel routes with heat sensors on their own cars measuring temperature, humidity, time, and location.

Identify bicycle or pedestrian safety issues in your community
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is collecting data on bicycle and pedestrian safety for the Vulnerable Road User Assessment. Please help IDOT by adding locations to the web map where you have identified or experienced bicycle or pedestrian safety issues.
