Our Great Rivers grantees to implement plan recommendations
The Chicago Community Trust recently announced Our Great Rivers funding recipients. Four of the grantees will implement recommendations based on plans created through CMAP's technical assistance program: Illinois International Port District and Chicago's Albany Park, Hegewisch, and McKinley Park neighborhoods.

Upstream Illinois aims to create "blue economy" based on water-related industries
This month, Chicago-based water innovation hub Current released Upstream Illinois, a strategy for growing a globally significant blue economy in Illinois and the Great Lakes region. Current notes that, with a changing climate and changing economy, Illinois should make the region home for innovation that can solve local and global water challenges.
Upstream Illinois was built with inclusivity at its core, benefiting those most impacted by economic disparity and environmental harm. To achieve its ambitious goals, Current is uniting industry, universities, government, utilities, workforce development nonprofits, and others to ensure we are all pulling in the same direction.

Illinois Groundwork provides community green infrastructure resources
There is a new online resource to help build resilience in our region's communities. Illinois Groundwork provides data and information on green stormwater infrastructure that communities and stormwater professionals can use to more effectively absorb rain. It includes new soil research — critical for effective stormwater infrastructure performance. The website also provides interactive resources, including a plant finder with information on 119 plants.

Friends of the Chicago River is hosting trainings for its new Natural Solutions Tool. You can also email naturalsolutionstool@chicagoriver.org to request additional training or collaboration.
Basics training workshop
Learn to create detailed data reports summarizing climate, health, equity, and biodiversity data for nearly any of the 1.5 million parcels in the 1,300-square-mile Chicago watershed region. Also learn how to easily visualize where high priority locations are for implementing nature-based solutions at the regional, city, neighborhood, and parcel scale. Advanced topics workshop
This interactive workshop is designed for those who have already begun exploring the tool and are looking for more guidance on how to use it to answer questions within their own unique projects, planning efforts, advocacy initiatives, outreach, and education. Typical Floodplain Management Services Program products include flood warning plans, hydraulic and hydrologic modeling, and flood communications plans. These studies do not result in construction but can help communities better manage their local flood risk.

Urban and Community Forestry Inflation Reduction Act Grants
The U.S. Forest Service is requesting proposals from eligible entities that are working to provide equitable access to trees and green spaces and the benefits they provide. The funding opportunity is open to proposals spanning a broad range of investments working at a community, regional, and national scale. Applications close on Thursday, June 1.
