The City of Aurora is preparing for a significant snow event on Saturday, with forecasts indicating total snowfall ranging from 6 to 12 inches.
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the City from 3 A.M. on Saturday until 6 A.M. on Sunday. During the afternoon hours on Saturday, snowfall rates of 0.5" to 1" per hour are expected, along with wind gusts exceeding 30 miles per hour, which may lead to pockets of blowing or drifting snow.
Beginning on Saturday morning, the City's Snow Team will be running 24-hour operations with staff members and contractors, plowing and salting all primary and residential roadways until further notice. Residents can view an interactive map at any time to view plow routes and plowing progress.
If you plan on driving during the snow event, please be extra cautious, reduce speed, and put distance between yourself and other drivers. Stay a minimum of 75 feet behind snowplows, and never attempt to pass them. And, when clearing your driveway, be sure to avoid shoveling snow into the street.
Snow Parking Ordinance In Effect

The City would also like to remind residents that, when two or more inches of snow are present, cars must be moved off the street to make room for plowing operations.
During or within 24 hours after a snow event, cars can park on the front lawn of a residential property. Additionally, cars can park over the sidewalk during or within 24 hours after a snow event.
Cars cannot park on the parkway, though, and cars cannot park on the street when two or more inches of snow are on the ground.
The City's Property Standards Division will be out to enforce the snow parking ordinance throughout the duration of the snow event.
During this snow event, the City will be opening its Temporary Overnight Warming Center at the Financial Empowerment Center, located at 712 S. River Street. The entrance is through the main door, and guests will be buzzed in through the security door.
The Center will be open from 7 P.M. to 7 A.M. on:
- Friday, November 28, to Saturday, November 29
- Saturday, November 29, to Sunday, November 30
The City's Temporary Overnight Warming Center is activated based on temperature thresholds.
