Fourth of July Celebrations Next Week!
The 4th of July Parade is just around the corner! The parade will step-off at the intersection of Benton Street and Broadway Avenue at 10AM on Friday, July 4. The Reviewing Stand will be in front of the David L. Pierce Art & History Center at 20 E. Downer Place.
We are thrilled to announce this year's Parade Grand Marshal...Hugo Saltijeral!
Hugo currently serves as the Executive Director of the Valley Sheltered Workshop, leading a bold transformation in disability services. Hugo’s leadership, generosity, and commitment to the Aurora community makes him a great choice to lead the parade units next Friday.
Free parking is available throughout downtown, including the Stolp Island Parking Garage for the day. Arrive early and prepared! Give yourself enough time to park and find a spot along the parade route.

Join us for our FREE Fireworks Celebration on July 3! This family-friendly event will have food trucks and DJs.
There will be two viewing locations for this year’s show:
- Aurora Transportation Center (ATC) – 233 N. Broadway
- McCullough Park – 150 W. Illinois Avenue
A free park-and-ride shuttle will operate round-trip services from 6 P.M.-9 P.M. to both viewing locations.
Gates open at 6 P.M. and fireworks start at approximately 9:15 P.M.
*Please note, the ATC lot will be CLOSED from 1 A.M.-11 P.M. on July 3. Commuters should use the Route 59 Train Station for Metra Services.

Touch-A-Truck at Aurora's Farmers Market Tomorrow
Aurora's Farmers Market continues its fabulous roster of Saturday programming!
Head downtown to Water Street tomorrow from 8 A.M.-12 P.M., and you'll be treated to a variety of vendors and artisans. You'll also get to meet some Aurora's first responders at their Touch-A-Truck event!
The Aurora Police Department Spike the Crime-Fighting Dog, the Aurora Fire Department, and Aurora's Emergency Management Agency will all be on-site from 10 A.M.-12 P.M. at tomorrow's market!

The use of fireworks is illegal under City Code Sec. 29-30 and could lead to serious penalties and fines.
These fireworks not only cause safety hazards, but also, negatively affect our neighbors, pets, and those in the community suffering from mental health issues, such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Setting off illegal fireworks carry fines of up to $1,000 in Aurora, not to mention the physical and mental harm they can cause to you, your family, and your neighbors.
Being a good neighbor is truly the foundation of a strong community. We encourage everyone to be considerate to those around them, and refrain from the use of illegal fireworks.

The City of Aurora is inviting passionate and dedicated community members to apply to serve on five newly-launched Public Service Committees, aimed at developing community-based recommendations that inform City departments.
Finance and Responsibility Committee: Develop a 100-day goal and four-year budget and finance plan.
Sustainability and Development Committee: Develop a bold climate plan and empower residents to embrace energy-efficient homes and renewable energy through accessible incentives.
Housing Committee: Address the affordability and accessibility of housing for Aurora residents through a comprehensive plan as well as develop recommendations to support the City’s unhoused community.
Public Safety Committee: Design a plan that incorporates innovative methods of crime prevention and strengthens community involvement in public safety.
Supporting Youth & Education Committee: Develop after-school programs and education initiatives that empower youth and elevate educational opportunities for all students.

The program, which has helped more than 200 families and individuals avoid homelessness in Kane County, provides vital support to residents facing financial hardship, plus helps maintain housing stability throughout the county.
The deadline to submit your application is July 31! Processing may take up to 6-8 weeks.

The City of Aurora's Fire Hydrant Flushing Program began on Monday, June 2 and will run through the end of September. This critical initiative allows the City's Fire Department to inspect Aurora's 10,000 fire hydrants, plus assists in flushing out City water mains, ensuring that water delivery is efficient year-round.
Hydrant flushings will take place on Mondays through Thursdays between 9 A.M. and 2 P.M. No hydrants will be flushed after 2 P.M. or on Fridays.
Some discoloration of water may occur during the hydrant flushing process. If you see discolored water, discontinue water use and turn on cold water faucets, such as an outside spigot or bathtub, until the water clears in a few minutes. Please refrain from washing clothes until the water clears. If your clothes become discolored in the laundry, do not dry them and call 311 for a free bottle of liquid poly-laundry aide to help remove stains.

City Council unanimously approved a new Chief Legal Officer and the City’s first-ever Director of Sustainability this week.
Yordana Wysocki (below) will serve as the new Chief Legal Officer, following an impressive 20-plus-year career in local government law. She previously served as a partner at Hervas, Condon & Bersani, P.C., a law firm in Itasca that specializes in local government law and litigation.
Alison Lindburg (above) will serve as the City’s first-ever Director of Sustainability, previously serving as the Director of Building Codes and Policy at the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance. In that role, Lindburg worked with several states and their local governments to move toward decarbonization through energy efficiency policies such as energy codes.
As the City’s first-ever Director of Sustainability, Lindburg will be tasked with leading Aurora’s sustainability efforts through strategic planning, innovative programming, and regional partnerships. As the incoming Chief Legal Officer, Wysocki will provide day-to-day legal advice l to elected officials and upper City management, review contracts and other legal agreements, represent the City’s interests to other local governments, and represent the City in legal actions.
