Get to Know Charleville Library
Originally built in 1846 and known as St. James Church of Ireland. It was constructed on the site of an earlier Protestant Church built by Roger Boyle in 1663. Is it built of limestone ashlar and an example of the Neo-Gothic style. The building was beautifully restored by the Cork County Council in 1991 and converted into a library. We welcome over 1,500 patrons each year and serve the wider community of over 5500 people. We are centrally located in the town with a free carpark available at the back of the library.
Opening hours are Tuesday to Saturday from 9.30am - 5.30pm. We are closed on the Saturday of a Bank Holiday Weekend. The library is staffed by Josephine, Mary and Emmanuel.
We can be contacted on 063-89769 or at charleville.library@corkcoco.ie
For Adults
We have a variety of activities that run in the library. We have a Crochet and Knitting group that meet every Wednesday morning. Last year, the ladies of the group produced a gorgeous crochet Christmas Tree, which we proudly display in the library.
We have a Ciorcal Comhrá group that meet every second Saturday. This is a new group with speakers of all levels and new members are always welcome. We also supply books for several local book clubs and would be happy to facilitate any book club in the area, whether established or looking to start.

The newspapers we have available daily are The Irish Times, Irish Independent and The Examiner. We also have a variety of weekly papers available such as the Vale Star, Limerick Leader, The Farmer’s Journal and The Corkman. Woman’s Way and Hello magazines are available too.
We have 3 public computers, Wi-Fi available through your library card, a photocopier, and a scanner also available for members to use. There is an exhibition space available, and we are happy to display work here. Just pop in for a chat and we will facilitate you if possible.
