County to schedule consultation meeting with IDL
Bonner County Daily Bee, 9-29-26
SANDPOINT — Bonner County commissioners will seek more information from the Idaho Department of Lands before deciding whether to support a proposed waterfront recreation lease off Lakeshore Drive.
The decision was made by commissioners Brian Domke and Ron Korn during a special meeting Monday, after learning that the meeting was called to determine if the commissioners wanted to meet with officials from IDL to discuss the agency's proposed boat club recreation lease.
The approximately 29 acres in question are part of IDL's state endowment lands, property that can be leased to fund a handful of different services, mostly related to education. According to IDL, state endowment lands are managed by IDL for the public's benefit.

Investigation ties Forest Service leader Michael Boren to $1M Idaho wildfire
Idaho Statesman, 9-28-26
A recently published investigation by two news outlets uncovered ties between Idaho businessman-turned-bureaucrat Michael Boren and an Owyhee County wildfire that cost taxpayers nearly $1 million.
High Country News and Public Domain published the article in tandem Sept. 17. According to the outlets’ reporting and fire investigation documents, Michael Boren’s brother Steve Boren lit several unauthorized fires on state-owned land to clear slash piles, ultimately igniting a fire that burned roughly 5,600 acres.
Michael Boren, who cofounded Clearwater Analytics, joined President Donald Trump’s administration last year to oversee the Forest Service. He is also a part-owner of Josephine Creek Ranch, a 2,500-acre property in the Owyhee Mountains managed by Steve Boren.
