Sage Brush Fire – Update

Athol, ID – September 10, 2025, 5:30 p.m. PT

Location: 3 miles northeast of Athol

Start date: 09/08/2025 at 1:25 p.m. PT

Cause: Under investigation

Size: 47 acres

Containment: 80%

Total Personnel: 130

CURRENT SITUATION:

Fire personnel made good progress on containment today. Crews continued to improve control lines and mop-up along the fire’s perimeter. Mop-up involves felling of dangerous snags and trees, putting out all spot fires, and extinguishing all burning material starting at the perimeter and working inward to ensure the fire does not escape control lines. The fire is now 80% contained.

The Incident Commander would like to remind the public to please avoid trails and roads where crews are working. Please give the firefighters a safe space to work and respect private property. Fire personnel are reporting increased activity from recreational off-road vehicles, which can impact firefighter safety and hamper efforts. As a result, some roads in the vicinity may be temporarily closed to unauthorized traffic.
