Sage Brush Fire - Update

Athol, ID – September 9, 2025, 7:15 p.m. PT

Location: 3 miles northeast of Athol

Start date: 09/08/2025 at 1:25 p.m. PT

Cause: Under investigation

Size: 47 acres

Containment: 65%

Total Personnel: 100

CURRENT SITUATION:

All evacuation orders have been lifted. Tomorrow, some roads in the vicinity may close temporarily for firefighter safety and operational control as the crews begin “mop-up” operations.

Fire personnel made significant progress on containment today, and a fireline has been constructed around the entire perimeter using handline and plumbed hose. The fire is now 65% contained as of this evening. Tomorrow morning, crews will enhance control lines and begin mop-up operations.

The Incident Commander would like to remind the public to please stay away from the trails and roads where crews are working. The area is surrounded by private property, and several owners have opened private gates and roads to allow suppression crews to move around freely. As a result, personnel are reporting increased activity from recreational off-road vehicles, which can impact firefighter safety and hamper efforts. Please give them a safe space to work and respect private property rights.
