Sage Brush Fire - Update

Athol, ID – September 9, 2025, 12:00 p.m. PT

Location: 3 miles northeast of Athol

Start date: 09/08/2025 at 1:25 p.m. PT

Cause: Under investigation

Size: 47 acres

Containment: 30%

Total Personnel: 100

CURRENT SITUATION:

Crews remained on scene throughout the night and resumed operations this morning. Currently, 4 hand crews, 8 engines, 2 dozers, and 1 tender are on site and actively working to suppress and extinguish the fire. Recent GIS mapping activity estimates the fire to be approximately 47 acres.

Cooler temperatures and humidity recovery overnight helped suppression efforts. Today’s weather forecast shows a 40% chance of showers.

The Incident Commander would like to remind the public to please stay away from the trails and roads where crews are working. The area is surrounded by private property, and several owners have opened private gates and roads to allow suppression crews to move around freely. As a result, personnel are reporting increased activity from recreational off-road vehicles, which can impact firefighter safety and hamper efforts. Please give them a safe space to work and respect private property rights.

EVACUATIONS, CLOSURES

The Bonner County Sheriff’s Office is using the READY, SET, GO system.

All areas that were previously in GO status have been DOWNGRADED to READY status.

READY status: Rocksprings, Doe Run, Hatchet Lane, Genesis Lane, Trails End, Misty Meadows, Rodeo Road, Resort Road, Sta off Mi Road, Candle Hill Road, Sagebrush Way, Parkwood Drive, Zeeland Road, Rain Drive, Angelwood Lane.
