Idaho Department of Lands to Auction Three Payette Lake Lots

BOISE - The Idaho Department of Lands (IDL) will auction three state endowment owned lots on Payette Lake appraised at just over $4.2 million for deeded ownership during a public, oral auction on Friday, July 18, in Eagle, Idaho.
The auction starts at 11 AM (MT) at the Waters Edge Event Center.
All lots are under lease with cabins on them. The land is held in trust by IDL for State Hospital South beneficiaries, but the cabins and other improvements on the land are owned by the leaseholders as personal property.

Wildfire South of Orofino Estimated at 75 Acres

GREER, ID – Firefighters continue to battle the Old Greer Fire, which was last estimated by officials as approximately 75 acres in size. The Lewis County Sheriff has closed Old Greer Road due to the fire activity.
The fire is burning across the river from Greer, in Lewis County. As of Thursday evening, there were 5 structures threatened, however no evacuations had been put in place.
The Idaho Department of Lands, U.S. Forest Service, the Nez Perce Tribe, and the Clearwater-Potlatch Timber Protection Association continue to work through steep, rugged terrain to construct containment lines, slow fire spread, and continue structure protection. Additional resources have been ordered and are expected to arrive Friday.

BOISE, Idaho — Governor Brad Little and Lt. Governor Scott Bedke welcomed high-ranking officials from the Trump administration this week for a roundtable discussion on the 2025 wildfire season. The event, which included a trail ride, aimed to enhance coordination between state and federal agencies in preparation for future wildfires.
Attendees at the roundtable included Kate MacGregor, Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI), Kristin Sleeper, Deputy Undersecretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Tom Schultz, Chief of the U.S. Forest Service, Adam Suess, DOI Acting Assistant Secretary for Land and Minerals Management, and Andrew Mott, Assistant to the DOI Deputy Secretary.
Federal officials emphasized the Trump administration's commitment to aggressive resource prepositioning and a full suppression approach for federally managed fires. They highlighted the importance of partnerships with ranchers and loggers, who are often first responders to wildfires.

Wildfire near Greer, Idaho threatens structures, crews working to contain 6-acre blaze

GREER, Idaho – Firefighters are battling a six-acre wildfire on Old Greer Grade Road, with several structures threatened.
According to the Idaho Department of Lands (IDL), crews from IDL, the U.S. Forest Service, the Nez Perce Tribe, and the Clearwater-Potlatch Timber Protection Association are working to construct containment lines, slow the fire’s spread, and protect nearby structures.
There are currently no evacuation orders, but officials said five structures are threatened.
Approximately 25 personnel are on scene, along with three engines, one bulldozer, one helicopter and one air attack aircraft. Additional resources have been requested.

According to the Idaho Department of Lands, the Old Greer Fire has expanded to approximately 75 acres in size.
Fire crews are continuing to battle the fire, and there have still not been any evacuation orders.
Old Greer Road remains closed.

Fireworks use on public lands

State fire season in effect
Idaho’s closed fire season runs from May 10 to Oct. 20. During this period, it is illegal to use or discard lighted fireworks or firecrackers on any forest or rangeland, including state endowment lands.
No fireworks on federal lands — ever
Fireworks are strictly prohibited year-round on all federally managed lands: U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
This includes sparklers, fountains and all ground-based fireworks.
Violators face: Fines up to $5,000, up to six months in jail, and liability for fire suppression costs if a wildfire is caused

Idaho enhances fire detection with AI cameras

IDAHO - The Idaho Department of Lands has been upgrading its fire detection systems over the past three years, focusing on using advanced technology to improve response times.
Deputy Chief Scott Hayes from the Idaho Department of Lands explained the role of fire detection cameras in this effort.
"One aspect that we're using is that we're using fire detection cameras. Most of those are situated on mountaintops and the used artificial intelligence to be able to get us notifications of fires and to get that fire response initiated as quickly as possible," he said.
