Gusty winds of 15-20 miles per hour, steep terrain and dark conditions are making it very difficult for Idaho Department of Lands (IDL) firefighters battling the 100-acre Hatwai Fire northeast of Lewiston.
One structure has burned. Firefighters are committed to working throughout the night in an effort to keep the fire from reaching other structures. Gusty winds are expected throughout the night.
The Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office is making notifications and handling evacuations as needed. The Sheriff’s Office is responsible for evacuations. There are currently 40 personnel fighting the fire with 8 engines and one water tender. All resources will remain on the fireline throughout the night.
IDL is being assisted by Nez Perce County Fire, Nez Perce Tribal Fire, and rural fire districts.
