Idaho Statehouse tree placed, decorated for holiday season
Idaho Press, 11-26-24
The season was noticeably marked in downtown Boise on Monday, when the 2024 Statehouse Christmas tree was cut and set up in front of the Capitol.
The tree now stands in a hole 10 feet deep that’s specifically used for the Statehouse Christmas tree, and several organizations — including the Department of Lands, Idaho Transportation Department and Boise Police Department — came together to make it happen, closing down some roads in downtown Boise, assisting with chopping and transporting Christmas to the Capitol.
...
After the tree was transported, the Department of Lands crew anchored the tree into the hole, leveled the tree and secured it in the hole. Just like a live Christmas tree in the living room, there’s water in the hole that keeps the tree in front of the Capitol hydrated, Makin said.

Trestle Creek project extended for two years
Bonner County Daily Bee, 11-22-24
SANDPOINT — A contentious development project located at the mouth of Trestle Creek received a two-year extension at Tuesday’s Bonner County commissioners’ business meeting.
Valiant Idaho, LLC/Valiant Idaho II, LLC requested a four-year extension of its conditional use permit for the project from the board at the Nov. 19 business meeting. Project representative Jeremy Grimm said several modifications to the project would be presented to the board for approval in the near future.
...
Grimm said there is a web of external agencies involved in the project, and he has no control over those agency’s timelines. According to Grimm, he is working to finalize the project and received approval from the Idaho Department of Lands for the proposed commercial marina Nov. 18.
“These things don’t happen quickly and based on our response from IDL (Idaho Department of Lands) just yesterday afternoon to approve the dock, we need a little more time to get this through the ringer.”

IDL approves Idaho Club encroachment permit for Trestle Creek project
Sandpoint Reader, 11-20-24
The Idaho Department of Lands has once again approved the Idaho Club’s application for an encroachment permit near the mouth of Trestle Creek in a Nov. 18 final order, following an Oct. 7 public meeting hosted by Hearing Examiner Leslie Hayes from the Office of Administrative Hearings. The decision brings developers one step closer to building the proposed 88-slip marina, which has been in the works — in one form or another — since 2008.
IDL previously approved an encroachment permit for a 105-slip community dock at the same site in October 2023; however, developers Valiant Idaho, LLC and Valiant Idaho II, LLC subsequently entered into a bargain sale agreement with the Kalispel Tribe, transferring ownership of a 5.8-acre parcel that included the final quarter mile of the main branch of Trestle Creek and one-eighth of a mile of the north branch. The Kalispel Tribe’s land will be held in conservation in perpetuity.
Under Idaho Code, property owners can only petition to build a community dock if they own three parcels adjacent to the water. By transferring ownership of one of the parcels, the Idaho Club no longer qualified for the previous permit.
