Wallen Fire
October 4, 2024, 8 PM PT
Date of Origin: October 4, 2024
Location: approximately 2 miles northeast of Moscow, ID
Estimated Size: 75 acres
Containment: 0%
Cause: Under Investigation
Current situation:
Approximately 50 structures are currently threatened by the 75-acre Wallen Fire, 2 miles northeast of Moscow. No structures have been lost. There are evacuations in place which are being coordinated by the Latah County Sheriff’s Office.
Evacuation information can be found on the Latah County Sheriff's Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LatahCountySO .
The wildfire was first reported at 2:45 p.m. and is burning in grass, brush and timber. Winds with gusts as high as 45 miles per hour created challenges for firefighters as the fire burned near homes. Firefighters will remain on the scene throughout the night and into tomorrow.
Cooler temperatures and higher humidity this evening is working to the advantage of firefighting efforts, and the fire is responding by laying down with less activity. Cooler temperatures and less wind is expected tomorrow, which will assist firefighters.
Idaho Department of Lands has 6 engines on scene and 10-12 engines from rural fire departments from both Latah and Whitman County Rural Fire Districts. Clearwater-Potlatch Timber Protective Association (C-PTPA) and Bennett Lumber are also assisting.
