FIRE INFORMATION NEWS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 

8/28/2024 6:30pm PST

Mowry Fire

Date of Origin: 8/28/2024 at approximately 1:00pm PT

Location:  Approximately 4 miles north of Worley, ID and just south of Cave Bay on Lake Coeur d’Alene

Evacuations: Kootenai County has issued a ‘Get Ready’ evacuation notice (Level 1). For more info on evacuations please contact the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office or see the Kootenai County Emergency Management Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/kootenaiOEM

Estimated Size: 103 acres

Containment: 0%

Estimated time of Containment: 10:00pm PT 8/28/2024

Cause:  Under investigation

Firefighters on Scene: 10 engines, 3 bull dozers, 1 helicopter, and 1 hand crew

Cooperating Agencies: Coeur d’Alene Tribe, US Forest Service

Current Situation: In addition to the firefighters listed above, the following aircraft were used: 1 VLAT (Very Large Air Tanker), 3 single engine water scoopers, and an Air Attack. These aircraft have completed their work in creating wet line around 90% of the fire to impede further spread. Fire lines are currently being constructed and mop up work has begun.
