Location:  Off the Snake River near the Idaho/Washinton Border

Start Date: 7/3/2024.  Cause: Under Investigation

Size: 3169 acres

Resources: 150 Total Personnel; 2 Dozers; 1 Helicopters; 4 Hand Crews; 1 Jet Boats

KEY MESSAGE:

Fire growth was minimal, and containment increased from 10% to 33% yesterday. Further containment increases are expected in the coming days.

CURRENT STATUS:

Structure protection resources will be patrolling and monitoring structures along the Snake River corridor today. Firefighters will monitor the north and south fire perimeter above the Snake River and respond appropriately if they observe any hotspots.Very little smoke was visible yesterday across the fire area except for residual smoke from small firing operations from hotshot crews securing sections of the fire perimeter. Along the fire's eastern edge, crews will continue executing a full suppression strategy using direct attack, hot spotting, and cold trailing tactics.   Fire crews will also conduct suppression repair work in the upper elevations of the fire area.

WEATHER AND FIRE BEHAVIOR:

A strong ridge over the region is causing hot, dry, and stable conditions over the fire area. Hot and dry conditions continue through the week, at least, with the Excessive Heat Warning lasting through Friday. Winds will generally remain terrain-driven throughout the week. At approximately 4000 feet in elevation, the fire area transitions into a brush type where the brush still has high fuel moisture. Generally, grass-type fuels below 4000 feet are very receptive to fire spread. Fire behavior analysts expect brushy fuel moisture to decrease and become more receptive to fire spread in the coming weeks.

CLOSURES AND EVACUATIONS:

There are no closures or evacuations at this time.
