Safety Employee of the Year!
On February 20th at the Land Board Meeting, Shannon McCormick was named IDL's 2023 Safety Employee of the Year! Director Miller presented her with the award with Governor Little and members of the Land Board present.
Several of her employees nominated her, saying:
"She has changed the safety culture in our department by wanting us to be safe at home, on the road and both in the office and at the log yard"
"She hasn't just thrown money at safety she has made it part of our daily routine."
"At scalers meetings we always bring up safety and she wants to know about anything we see or do that’s not safe."
"She constantly reminds us to make her and our scaling supervisors aware of any unsafe working conditions at our mills. If any safety issues come up, she responds very quickly and resolves them."

Be sure to keep safety your priority and notice when your fellow employees go above and beyond for workplace safety. This is an annual award, and nominations will be requested next fall for the 2024 award. Visit the Safety Program SharePoint site here for Safety Award Criteria and information.
Please join me in congratulating Shannon!

Changing Driving Conditions
This time of year creates a variety of driving conditions and many of us are beginning to travel more as we move out of winter. You may drive to work on black ice and drive home in a blizzard! Or it may be 50 degrees with dry pavement, only to switch to pouring rain. Another factor that has been significant recently is fog.
Please continue to be prepared for any weather condition; keep your vehicle winter prepared; and be diligent with attention to road conditions.
Three-quarters of all weather-related crashes occur on wet pavement, according to the Federal Highway Administration, and nearly half happen during rainfall. Furthermore, crashes that happen during rainfall result in around 3,400 fatalities and over 357,300 injuries annually, reports the FHA.

High Visibility PPE Shirts
It's time to order high visibility shirts! These shirts are available to field going employees if a significant portion of your job duties involve working in conditions where use of high-visibility PPE is required or recommended such as logging operations, in log yards, or inspections of private and IDL lands.
Supervisors and managers of eligible positions have received the link to the order form. If you believe that you are eligible for this program and have not received the order form link from your supervisor, please see him or her.
