Hospital Fire Threatens Wixson Heights, Evacuations Ordered

Orofino, Idaho – Crews from Clearwater-Potlatch Timber Protective Association, local first responders and surrounding districts are aggressively battling the 30-acre Hospital Fire in Orofino from the ground and air. Fire officials report structures have been lost.

The Clearwater County Sheriff’s office has ordered the evacuation of the Wixson Heights neighborhood. Residents in need of lodging are encouraged to go to the old Orofino Junior High. The fair barn is open for housing animals. The Tabernacle Church located at 1839 Michigan Avenue is also open for those being evacuated.

Fire officials ask that community members steer clear of the area near the fire and keep personal drones grounded. If your drone is flying, firefighting aircraft must be grounded, which puts the lives of firefighters at risk.

· Secure trailer chains so they don’t drag and cause a fire

· Never park over dry grass because hot exhaust systems can start a fire
