Crews Holding Parkway Fire at 60 Acres, Evacuations Still in Place

Today crews battled the Parkway Fire from the ground and air, holding it to 60 acres and stopping its forward progression. Evacuations ordered by the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office remain in place.

Information about the evacuations can be found on the Kootenai County Emergency Management Facebook page:  https://www.facebook.com/kootenaiOEM

While the air attack is shut down for the night, a joint night shift with Kootenai County Fire and Rescue will continue to patrol the fire until crews arrive in the morning.

An Idaho Department of Lands Type 3 Incident Management Team led by Nate Rogers will take command of the incident tomorrow.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The next update about the Parkway Fire will publish tomorrow morning.

With nearly all areas under Idaho Department of Lands fire protection now in Very High to Extreme Fire Danger, fire officials urge caution. They ask the public and industry to increase their caution as a spark in dry conditions can start and carry a fire a long-distance, putting communities at greater risk for catastrophic fires.
