Current situation

Firefighters are currently battling a wildland fire just southeast of the Idaho Forest Group Mill in Moyie Springs that started near the Moyie River and began burning uphill towards the mill and nearby houses. The Moyie Fire is estimated to be 2-3 acres in size.

Idaho Department of Lands (IDL) is leading the response with assistance from local firefighters from Moyie Springs, Curley Creek, and North Bench.

The residents of approximately 50 Moyie Springs homes living near the mill have been notified of the fire and the potential need for evacuation if the fire moves towards the neighborhood. If evacuation is needed, residents will be informed directly by law enforcement, firefighters, or by Sheriff’s Dispatch.

Multiple firefighting aircraft are attacking the fire repeatedly while ground crews construct a fire control line using hand tools. Residents may see four Fireboss fixed wing aircraft and one Type 1 Skycrane helicopter fighting the fire.

Residents are asked to stay clear of the area and be aware of low flying aircraft around the IFG Mill. Also, civilian drones are not allowed in the area. Flying drones near an emergency scene is against the law and will interfere with firefighting aircraft, working against the firefighters on scene.

Cooperating Agencies: Idaho Dept. of Lands, Boundary County Office of Emergency Management, Local fire fighters from Moyie Springs, Curley Creek, and North Bench, Boundary County Sheriff's Office.
